Power2X has reached Final Investment Decision (FID) and issued Notice to Proceed for the Djewels green hydrogen project in Delfzijl, Netherlands, officially moving the 20MW facility into the construction phase. First hydrogen production is expected in mid-2028.
Located at Chemical Park Delfzijl in the Province of Groningen, the project is expected to supply approximately 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually to industrial customers in the region. The facility will use pressurised alkaline electrolysis technology supplied by John Cockerill, designed to improve efficiency and reduce the footprint and cost of future large-scale hydrogen production plants.
Rely, the joint venture between Technip Energies and John Cockerill, has been appointed as EPC contractor and integrator for the project, providing engineering, procurement and construction services alongside plant performance guarantees.
Djewels is the first project to enter construction following Power2X’s acquisition of HyCC earlier this year and is supported by the Province of Groningen, Waddenfonds, the European Union’s Clean Hydrogen Partnership and the Dutch Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth.
The project is expected to play a role in strengthening the Netherlands’ position as a European energy hub while supporting industrial decarbonisation and the wider development of the hydrogen economy across Europe.
