Albaretos is developing and coordinating the Libya Green Energy Project (LiGEP), a two-site, €360 million project in Ajdabiya, Libya, that will produce renewable ammonia.
With the aim to be operational by 2029, the project will produce 57,000 tons (51,709 tonnes) of zero-carbon ammonia annually. One site is inland and next to existing high-voltage grid connections; the other is on the coast and will allow for future hydrogen, ammonia and export infrastructure. Both sites will be 300 hectares and feature the deployment of 400MW of solar generating capacity.
According to Albaretos’ press release: “The project rollout timeline includes: development and approvals (eg, FEED studies) in 2026; financing and initial work (eg, EPC selection) in 2027; the first solar capacity to come online (towards final 800MW or 1.5 TWh per year capacity targets) by the end of 2028; and electrolyser-produced hydrogen (10,000 tons [9,072 tonnes] per year) and ammonia production, storage and export from 2029 onwards.”
