Sasol has commissioned Envision Energy for a design study into the feasibility of a green hydrogen system at its site in Sasolburg, South Africa. The collaboration was announced during a visit to Envision’s Chifeng Hydrogen Net Zero Industrial Park, Inner Mongolia, by South African Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
As part of the design study, integration of renewable energy generation, storage and electrolyser technologies supporting the production of green hydrogen will be assessed. The long-term goal is that the green hydrogen would be used to produce e-methanol and electro-sustainable aviation fuel. The study is expected to conclude in late 2026.
