NEG8 Carbon has been awarded the WCCUS Breakthrough Technology Award at the World CCUS Conference in Edinburgh, UK. The award was presented to NEG8 Carbon due to its affordable and scalable electrostatic direct air capture (DAC) technology, with Dr John Breen, Chief Technology Officer of NEG8 Carbon, collecting the award.
The Breakthrough Technology Award is designed to showcase innovations that are advancing carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology through scientific and technical expertise, with the winning technology also showing potential for global development. NEG8 Carbon’s DAC technology combines low-temperature sorbent regeneration with industrial heat reuse, utilising otherwise-rejected heat as energy input for the carbon removal process.
In its press release, NEG8 states: “For NEG8 Carbon, the award provides independent recognition of the achievements in inventing and developing its electrostatic DAC platform. NEG8 Carbon has a strong IP portfolio with two patents for its electrostatic adsorber technology. NEG8 Carbon’s technology represents a step-change for the DAC industry. As demand grows for permanent carbon removal operating at scale, the company continues to focus on reusing waste heat, reducing energy consumption and lowering the cost of capture.”
