Velocys has added to its Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reactor collection with the AlphaCore 800, the highest-capacity microchannel FT reactor to date. The reactor is designed for larger-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and e-fuels projects.
The AlphaCore 800 is designed to produce up to 800 bpd, or around 30,000 tonnes a year (kt/a), of FT liquids from a single reactor, and is particularly suited to SAF plants targeting over 100 kt/a of production. The increased output size is in response to the increase in large-scale SAF and e-fuels projects globally.
Matthew Viergutz, CEO of Velocys, stated: “Customers are asking us to bring our microchannel FT technology into larger projects with simpler configurations. AlphaCore 800 is a direct response. As SAF projects move toward 100 kt/a and beyond, we are increasing capacity per reactor so developers can configure larger FT plants with fewer units while building on the technology platform and operating experience of Velocys.”
