Dondel has officially launched China’s first green hydrogen-to-sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) demonstration project in Yiwu County, Hami, Xinjiang.
The project has a total investment of ¥11 billion (€1.4 billion) and will utilise 400,000 tonnes of captured CO2 and 50,000 tonnes of green hydrogen to create 100,000 tonnes of e-SAF a year, with the site also including 2 GW of wind power.
Xie Menghao, General Manager of Dondel Energy, said: “The 1,000-tonne pilot along this technology pathway passed its assessment in Meishan, Sichuan, in August this year. An expert panel determined the technology to be internationally leading, filling a domestic gap in this field. The 10,000-tonne-scale unit has begun commissioning in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, this month. The Yiwu project follows a clear three-stage scale-up path – from thousands of tonnes to tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of tonnes – with each step firmly grounded.”
According to Dondel’s press release, “The SAF project represents Dondel’s bold strategic move to extend downstream, but the foundational capability supporting this move is the comprehensive core equipment system that Dondel has refined over many years.”
