Syntholene Energy Accelerates Construction of Clean Jet Fuel Demo Plant
US-based company Syntholene Energy has announced the accelerated construction of its flagship clean jet fuel demonstration facility in Húsavík, Iceland, by six months, now expecting the site to be operational by June 2026.

The geothermal-integrated demonstration plant will combine geothermal energy with high-temperature electrolysis to produce hydrogen for synthetic aviation fuel, improving energy efficiency and reducing the overall cost of synthetic fuel production.

Operational testing is expected to begin shortly after construction is completed; initial efficiency and technoeconomic data will be available later in 2026.

Dan Sutton, CEO of Syntholene, said: “Few advanced energy projects finish ahead of schedule, even at the demonstration stage. The fact that construction of Syntholene’s Demonstration Facility is on track to finish six months ahead of schedule reflects the seasoned execution capabilities of Syntholene’s engineering and project teams, as well as the elegance and modularity of the company’s thermal-hybrid architecture.”
