Argus Launches First Methanol-to-Jet Cost Indexes

Argus Launches First Methanol-to-Jet Cost Indexes
Argus has published the first cost indexes for methanol-to-jet (MtF) for nine global locations. The indexes are aligned with European standards for renewable fuels of non-biological origin, meaning companies will have access to like-for-like comparisons across geographies and production routes. All indexes are published in $/t, with local currency conversions where appropriate.

The launch of the MtF indexes follows ASTM International’s approval of the MtF production process as a valid pathway to create electro-sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF). European fuel suppliers are required from 2030 to blend e-SAF into existing fuel, with the UK’s mandate starting earlier in 2028.

Argus Media Chairman and CEO Adrian Binks said: “It’s important that Argus continues to enhance transparency in the low-carbon aviation fuels sector. These new synthetic fuels prices complement our leading suite of biofuels and traditional fuel prices as we help airline market participants manage their obligations under complex decarbonisation mandates.”
