Vema Hydrogen and SAF+ International Group Partner for Synthetic SAF
Vema Hydrogen has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SAF+ International Group (SAF+IG) to supply more than 4,000 tons (3,628 tonnes) of hydrogen annually from its engineered mineral hydrogen (EMH) project based in Quebec, Canada, to SAF+IG’s co-located production plant. The partnership will introduce a new, cost-effective hydrogen source to support synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production while reducing transport costs and supply chain risk.

To convert the EMH into fuel, SAF+IG will use modular reactor technology from KHIMOD.

Pierre Gonthier, President and CEO of SAF+IG, said: “SAF is one of the most promising and viable paths to decarbonise the aviation industry. Our partnership with Vema Hydrogen is strengthening our ability to produce drop-in synthetic SAF that offers a 90% reduction in carbon footprint compared to conventional jet fuel.”

Pierre Levin, CEO and Co-Founder of Vema Hydrogen, followed: “Aviation needs new answers, not incremental ones. EMH gives SAF+ International Group a reliable, affordable hydrogen supply that can finally unlock synthetic SAF at a meaningful scale. Quebec has all the ingredients to lead this transition, and this project is the first proof point of what an integrated EMH-to-SAF model can deliver.”

Nicolas Serrie, CEO of KHIMOD, concluded: “KHIMOD’s technology enables high selectivity towards the kerosene cut with strong control over reaction conditions. Its compact and modular approach is particularly suited to emerging SAF projects, where flexibility, integration and scalability are key.”
