VERSO ENERGY and TRAPIL Sign Co-Development Agreement for CO2 e-SAF Pipeline
VERSO ENERGY and TRAPIL have signed a co-development agreement for VERSO ENERGY’s DEZiR project. A CO2 transport pipeline will connect the Biomasse Énergie d’Alizay (BEA) site in the Eure department, France, to a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production site in Petit-Couronne, Seine-Maritime, France, supporting the production of electro-SAF (e-SAF).

The DEZiR project will produce up to 81,000 tonnes of e-SAF annually, created by combining renewable and low-carbon hydrogen with just over 330,000 tonnes of biogenic CO2 captured at BEA. By capturing CO2 that is currently emitted into the atmosphere, DEZiR contributes to the decarbonisation of air transport while strengthening France’s energy independence and supporting the e-Fuels industry in line with the European ReFuelEU Aviation regulation.

Xavier Folch, Chief Executive Officer of TRAPIL, commented: “This agreement illustrates TRAPIL’s evolution, as the company now brings its long-standing expertise in the design and operation of hydrocarbon transport infrastructure to the new value chains of the energy transition. The development of CO₂ transport networks is an essential lever for supporting industrial decarbonisation projects. Alongside VERSO ENERGY, we are proud to contribute to an innovative infrastructure that will help foster the emergence of a French carbon capture, transport and utilisation sector.”

Antoine Huard, CEO and Co-founder of VERSO ENERGY, added: “With DEZiR, we are developing one of France’s first industrial-scale e-SAF production projects, with commissioning planned in 2030, in line with the requirements of the European ReFuelEU Aviation regulation. Securing CO2 transport is a decisive factor in meeting this timetable. By strengthening our partnership with TRAPIL, a leading player in energy infrastructure, we are taking an important step towards delivering the project and helping to structure a French synthetic fuels industry, serving energy sovereignty and the decarbonisation of air transport.”
