AM Green to Build Chidambaranar Green Ammonia Plant
AM Green has announced it will construct a 1 million-tonne-per-year green hydrogen-based plant at V.O. Chidambaranar Port, Thoothukudi, India, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the port authority. The site will cover ammonia production, handling, storage, and refuelling operations with the aim to connect the port to demand in Europe and wider Asia.

This facility will join others at the site: a €45 million, 3,000 tonnes per year green hydrogen facility; a 750-metre-long e-methanol bunkering and refuelling pilot project, and an ongoing 9MW wind power project.

AM Green also broke ground on a 1.5 million tonne green ammonia plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India, in January 2026; Uniper and RWE are in place for the majority of offtake for this site.

These projects come in line with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which has a target of 5 million tonnes of annual hydrogen production by 2030. Currently, there are plans for hubs and two vessels to be retrofitted for green fuels by 2027.
