STX Group announced its first offtake of renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO)-compliant e-methane from TURN2X, with the agreement providing TURN2X an opportunity to expand its renewable gas portfolio. The e-methane will be developed at TURN2X’s commercial plant in Spain.
The agreement combines STX Group’s environmental commodities expertise, regulatory knowledge and downstream market access with TURN2X’s load flexible methanation technology and project development skills – meaning STX Group can provide bankability and liquidity in the sector, and a route to compliance under Europe’s RED III policies.
Diederik Francoys, Global Head of Renewable Gas and Managing Partner at STX Group, said: “This marks an important first step for STX Group in the RFNBO market. Certified RFNBO supply is still scarce, which makes partnering with pioneering producers like TURN2X essential. Combined with our regulatory expertise and buyer network, we can bring these volumes to the obligated parties. We are excited to be an early mover in a market that we believe will have an increasingly important role in the European and the global energy mix.”
Benedikt Stolz, Managing Director for TURN2X, commented: “We are proud to partner with STX Group and their extensive trading expertise to bring certified e-methane from our first commercial plant into the key markets across Europe. With our load flexible methanation technology we can produce e-methane at competitive cost, and we look forward to scaling up supply to over 1 TWh in the coming years.”
