Air Products and Nobian Sign RFNBO-Compliant Hydrogen Offtake Agreement

Air Products will use its existing infrastructure to offtake renewable fuel of non-biologic origin (RFNBO)-compliant hydrogen from Nobian’s renewables-powered chlor-alkali electrolysis plant, based in Rotterdam. The 30-year partnership supports the Netherlands’ RED III compliance needs.

Nobian’s facility has an annual RFNBO hydrogen production capacity of more than 14,000 tons (12,700 tonnes), making it Europe’s largest RFNBO-certified hydrogen plant. Air Products will supply RFNBO hydrogen to customers for them to achieve compliance and decarbonisation goals.

Markus Mingenbach, Senior Vice President Chlor-Alkali & Chloromethanes at Nobian, said: “This agreement is an important milestone for certified green hydrogen in Europe. Together with Air Products, we continue the build-out of the European hydrogen economy now. This is Grow Greener Together in practice – two leading industrial partners collaborating to advance the European energy transition.”

Caroline Stancell, Vice President, Marketing and Growth, Europe and Africa, Air Products, commented: “By expanding access to RFNBO-certified hydrogen from an established source, we are helping customers navigate RED III compliance while supporting their decarbonisation strategies. These certified molecules are available today, and Air Products’ network can bring them to market in a reliable and practical way.”
