OMV Petrom has delivered the fourth and final module for a 20mw electrolyser at the green hydrogen project at Petrobrazi refinery, Romania. The company currently has 55mw of capacity under development over two electrolysers (20mw and 35mw).
The 20mw electrolyser will produce around 3,000 tons (2,721 tonnes) of green hydrogen per year and will be used in production processes including for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrotreated vegetable oils (HVO).
The SAF/HVO programme at Petrobrazi has a total investment of €750 million: €560 million for the construction of the SAF/HVO unit and €190 million for the two green hydrogen production facilities.
Radu Căprău, Member of the OMV Petrom Executive Board for Refining and Marketing, said: “We are making progress on developing one of the largest green hydrogen production capacities in Romania. All components of the 20mw electrolyser have been delivered. In the coming period, deliveries will continue for the second green hydrogen project, with a capacity of 35mw, reflecting the sustained progress of the investment.”
