UK e-SAF facility moves onto next stage of development

UK e-SAF facility moves onto next stage of development
Carbon Neutral Fuels, io Consulting and Mission Zero Technologies have completed FEL3A for a UK e-SAF facility.

The next phase of the trio’s Project Starling includes licensor technology packages integrated into a single facility, completing key safety studies and developing a 3D model of the plant. The facility is planned to deliver 25,000 tonnes of fuel annually by 2031, meeting approximately 35%-40% of the UK’s mandated Power-to-Liquid SAF supply in 2030 and achieving 95% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to Jet A-1 fuel.

Described as a critical stage for first-of-a-kind e-SAF facility, FEL3A is where projects move beyond concept into delivery.

Project Starling has been supported by the UK Department for Transport’s Advanced Fuels Fund, in addition to previous funding.

“Project Starling is an important step towards delivering commercial-scale e-SAF in the UK. Completing FEL3A gives us greater confidence in the project’s definition and its pathway towards delivery,” said Stephanie Ng, CNF Project Director.
