The Port Authority of Alicante in Spain has confirmed a €5 million renewable hydrogen production and supply plant at Pier 19, with competition bids open for the construction and operation of the green hydrogen facility.
The move – part of the PORTALI-H2 project – aligns with President Luis Rodríguez’s aim to turn Port 19 into a “smart, green, innovative and competitive energy node in the Mediterranean … oriented to decarbonisation, in line with the European Green Deal and the strategic framework of the state port system.”
A site space of approximately 500m2 will be available for the plant, as well as more than 3,000m2 in the shelter dam for the installation of sustainable electricity generation systems that will power production. The plant will include an electrolyser capacity of around 1MW.
