Rivan has opened its first large-scale production facility, Production Base 1 (PB1) in London, UK, which aims to develop 50 modular synthetic natural gas (SNG), or e-NG, plants a year.
PB1 is 60,000 sqft and is designed to house all production systems: around 25,000 sqft of R&D space, including its reactor, electrolyser and direct air capture technology; manufacturing, which includes all fabrication, assembly and testing that will produce up to 50MWs of systems a year; and a team of over 100 staff. PB2, which aims to begin operations in 2028, will have a production output that is 10-20 times larger than PB1.
In its press release, Rivan stated: “Rivan’s aim is to … produc[e] hardware that can produce SNG cheaper than you can import it. PB1 is a huge step towards this goal. The first systems off the assembly line in early 2027 will produce SNG cheaper than importing natural gas into Europe – a statement almost unthinkable 5-10 years ago.”
