Sunfire Delivers Electrolyser Stacks to Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park

news item image
The first electrolyser stacks from Sunfire have arrived at the Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park, marking a major milestone in the development of one of Europe’s largest green hydrogen projects. The 30 MW facility will soon begin supplying renewable hydrogen to the regional chemical industry.

Sunfire’s pressurised alkaline electrolyser consists of six high-performance stacks, each made up of six blocks, together capable of producing up to 4,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. The delivery marks the transition from construction to installation, with commissioning set to follow once assembly is complete.

The Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park brings together partners including Uniper, VNG Handel & Vertrieb, and TotalEnergies. Hydrogen produced on-site will be transported via a repurposed gas pipeline to the Leuna refinery, demonstrating how renewable power, advanced electrolyser technology, and existing infrastructure can enable industrial-scale hydrogen production and decarbonisation across Central Germany.

In the longer term, once market roll-out begins, the Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park aims to supply green hydrogen not only to industrial users but also to the mobility and energy sectors, positioning itself as a major supplier of renewable hydrogen across Central Germany.
