SMA Altenso have announced that the company is to contribute to one of Germany’s largest green hydrogen production plants in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Baden-Württemberg. This landmark project, commissioned in October 2025, demonstrates how this new energy carrier and resource can be seamlessly integrated into regional industries.
At the heart of the facility is a 10 MW PEM electrolyzer powered entirely by renewable energy. Supplied with green electrons from the company's power conversion units, the plant is capable of producing up to 1,200 tonnes of hydrogen annually.
As the system integrator, the company delivered and commissioned two 40-foot MVPS units equipped with SMA Solar rectifiers, transformers, and switchgear.
This commercial plant is dedicated to supplying local off-takers with sustainable hydrogen. We’re proud to contribute to this initiative and to the energy transition across Germany and beyond.
