Sasol Chemicals and German Power-to-Liquid (PtL) pioneer INERATEC have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) that will see Sasol supply its next-generation Fischer-Tropsch (FT) catalyst to INERATEC from 2026. The advanced catalyst is expected to increase e-kerosene yields by 15% and expand the production capacity of INERATEC’s flagship facility.
INERATEC’s ERA ONE plant, the largest operational PtL facility worldwide, aims to produce up to 2,500 tonnes of sustainable e-Fuels annually. The current output is powered by Sasol’s state-of-the-art cobalt-based FT catalyst, developed from the company’s decades of proprietary experience in the Fischer-Tropsch process.
As green hydrogen and other e-SAF feedstocks remain scarce, yield efficiency is critical. “Improving yields is the most important lever we have at the moment to make large-scale commercialisation feasible,” said Dirk Uys, VP Sales South African Chemicals at Sasol.
This new agreement builds on years of collaboration between the two companies, including joint involvement in the German-South African CARE-O-SENE research project. It also reinforces Sasol’s role as a key player in the fast-developing e-SAF sector.
