Rolls-Royce and INERATEC Target Data Centre Emissions with e-Fuels

news item image
Rolls-Royce Power Systems and e-Fuel producer INERATEC have joined forces to decarbonise emergency power for data centres by replacing fossil diesel with synthetic e-Fuels. The partnership will see INERATEC’s low-emission e-Diesel, produced from renewable hydrogen and captured CO₂, used in Rolls-Royce’s mtu backup generators, starting with German facilities.

The initiative responds to the growing energy needs of AI-driven digital infrastructure, where backup diesel systems remain one of the few remaining sources of direct emissions. By offering a certified, drop-in alternative that requires no hardware modifications, the companies aim to help operators reduce Scope 1 emissions without compromising on uptime or reliability.

INERATEC’s e-Fuels, made via Power-to-X technology, are already certified under ISCC standards and can be deployed immediately thanks to local production capacity in Frankfurt. The partnership is expected to expand internationally as demand for greener data centre solutions grows.
