Reliance Industries has set an ambitious goal to produce three million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2032, revealed during its 48th Annual General Meeting.
Central to this strategy is the Dhirubhai Ambani Giga Energy Complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, a 44-million-square-foot facility that will anchor Reliance’s push into clean energy. The site will house an electrolyser gigafactory scaled to 3GW by 2026 and a battery plant starting at 40GWh per year, with expansion to 100GWh. Reports also indicate a massive solar project in the works, estimated to be three times the size of Singapore.
By vertically integrating production, Reliance aims to cut costs and secure supply chains. Its electrolyser gigafactory will leverage an exclusive licensing deal with Norway’s Nel to manufacture alkaline electrolysers in India. This complements its plans to channel renewable power into value-added green molecules such as ammonia, methanol, and SAF – for both domestic use and global export markets.
