Prometheus Fuels has announced a major breakthrough in Direct Air Capture (DAC), slashing costs by over 80% to below $50 per tonne – a world first that could finally make unsubsidised, carbon-neutral e-fuels price-competitive with fossil fuels.
Their new modular 200-ton-per-year DAC system, due for completion this year, captures CO₂ from ambient air and directly converts it into fuel using a patented Faraday Reactor. The process eliminates the need for gas purification and compression, massively reducing energy use and infrastructure costs.
Prometheus’ model bypasses point-source emissions and biomass, offering full geographic flexibility and access to the world’s cheapest solar – enabling 24/7 dispatchable carbon-neutral fuels for aviation, AI data centres, heavy industry, and grid power.
Their DAC and fuel economics have been independently validated by Ramboll, and the technology is already operational at the Titan Forge Alpha pilot plant. This leap in cost-efficiency could unlock synthetic fuels at scale for industries where electrification isn’t viable.
