Petronor E-Fuels Plant in Port of Bilbao To Be Fully Operational By 2027

Petronor, part of the Repsol group, expects its e-fuels plant under construction in the Port of Bilbao to be fully operational by early 2027, according to the Port Authority of Bilbao.

The plant will produce e-fuels from captured CO2 and renewable hydrogen produced by the 10 MW electrolyser also installed at the port.

The plant will have the capacity to produce 2,000 tonnes of e-fuels annually with the investment amounting to €146 million to incorporate innovative and experimental technology.

Using captured CO2 and renewable hydrogen produced by the 10 MW electrolyzer—also located at the decarbonisation hub—the plant will produce synthetic fuels such as diesel, SAF, and naphtha, the main component of gasoline.

These products have characteristics similar to conventional fuels and can be used in any current vehicle, such as cars, trucks, ships, or airplanes.
