Moeve Joins Global Impact Coalition Spin-Off to Advance e-SAF and Low-Carbon Chemicals in Europe

Moeve has joined fellow members of the Global Impact Coalition (GIC) to establish a dedicated spin-off aimed at developing a new methanol-based pathway to electro-Sustainable Aviation Fuel (e-SAF) and low-carbon chemicals in Europe. The initiative begins with a feasibility study and is centred on Methanol-to-Olefins (MTO) technology, which provides a sustainable alternative to conventional fossil-based production routes.

For Moeve, the partnership represents a move to develop a differentiated pathway to e-SAF, distinct from the Fischer-Tropsch route. The process converts e-methanol into e-SAF via sustainable olefins, offering scalability and synergies that could accelerate deployment of low-carbon aviation fuels. This is especially significant given that aviation accounts for around 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

At the same time, sustainable olefins can serve as feedstocks for a wide range of chemical applications, from polymers and packaging to consumer goods and industrial materials, supporting the broader decarbonisation of Europe’s chemical sector.

The feasibility study, running through 2026, will assess the potential to build Europe’s first large-scale sustainable olefins facility. With high energy costs and tightening regulation reshaping the region’s chemical industry, such projects offer both a route to competitiveness and a chance to align with fast-growing global green methanol markets, which are expected to triple by 2030.
