Moeve and Zaffra Sign MoU to Develop Spain’s First e-SAF Facilities
Moeve (formerly Cepsa) and Zaffra, a Sasol–Topsoe joint venture, have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the development of electro-sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) production facilities in southern Spain. The partnership aims to help meet the EU’s ReFuelEU Aviation targets, which mandate 1.2% e-SAF blending by 2030 as part of broader decarbonisation goals.
The proposed plants would draw on Moeve’s Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley and Zaffra’s synthetic fuel expertise. e-SAF, produced using renewable electricity, green hydrogen, and captured CO₂, is seen as a key technology for aviation emissions reduction.
Both companies say the agreement lays the foundation for Spain’s first e-SAF plants and underscores their commitment to scaling clean aviation fuels in line with the EU’s Fit for 55 climate package.
