The Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine has awarded funding to the HyAMBES project, led by KHIMOD, to conduct a feasibility study for a synthetic fuel production unit in Ambès. The project aims to produce sustainable aviation fuel by 2028 using locally recovered hydrogen and biogenic CO₂.
Developed in partnership with Teréga Solutions, Alpiq, Inthy, and a fuel logistics provider, the HyAMBES project seeks to demonstrate the technical and economic viability of producing e-fuels at industrial scale in south-west France. By integrating renewable energy and local carbon resources, the initiative supports the region’s wider strategy for decarbonising transport and advancing energy independence.
Once operational, the proposed facility would convert captured biogenic CO₂ and surplus hydrogen into synthetic hydrocarbons suitable for use in aviation and other transport sectors, helping to reduce lifecycle emissions and create new industrial opportunities in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
