Hynfra has signed a Framework Agreement with the Government of Mauritania for the development of a $1.5 billion green ammonia project in Nouakchott. The agreement was formalised at the Mauritanides 2025 conference and builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year.

The project, led by Mauritania Green Ammonia SARL, will involve the construction of an integrated facility capable of producing 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually from 2030. It will be located in the southern zone of the Somelec wind farm, with exports through the country’s largest port, Port de l’Amitié.

The development includes photovoltaic and wind farms, electrolysers, a green ammonia plant, desalination, energy storage, and supporting logistics infrastructure. Mauritania’s strong wind and solar resources, combined with proven ammonia synthesis expertise, are expected to position the project as a major contributor to global renewable energy supply.
