HIF Global Reveals Updated Design for Paysandú e-Fuels Plant

news item image
HIF Global has unveiled a redesigned layout for its e-Fuels project in Paysandú, Uruguay, developed in collaboration with local communities and the government. The revised plan improves environmental integration while maintaining the original $6 billion investment, timeline, and job targets.

Key updates include a 35% smaller facility footprint, reducing native forest impact by 70% and expanding the biodiversity reserve to 260 hectares. Chimneys have been repositioned to lessen visual impact, and a switch to cooling towers improves land and water efficiency.

The project will employ up to 3,200 workers during peak construction and create 600 ongoing jobs (300 direct, 300 indirect). Construction is set to begin in late 2026, with completion expected in 2029.

HIF has also finalised agreements for the first full module of e-Fuels production in Uruguay – a key milestone in scaling its renewable fuel ambitions.
