Gas transmission company Gasgrid has issued Finland’s first-ever guarantees of origin for hydrogen, awarded to P2X Solutions for renewable hydrogen produced at its Harjavalta plant. These guarantees are the only recognised way to demonstrate that hydrogen has been produced entirely from renewable energy sources.

The move marks a significant step in the commercialisation of hydrogen in Finland and strengthens market confidence in the traceability of renewable hydrogen. P2X Solutions, which inaugurated Finland’s first industrial-scale green hydrogen production plant in Harjavalta in spring 2025, now holds a competitive advantage in the emerging hydrogen market.

Guarantees of origin are increasingly important as renewable gases play a key role in Finland’s and Europe’s carbon neutrality goals. They provide assurance that clean gases, including hydrogen, synthetic methane and biogas, are produced from renewable energy, enabling producers to market their gas as truly green.
