The German Aerospace Center (DLR) has received further funding of €157 million from the German Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) for the Power-to-Liquid Fuels (TPP) technology platform. Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder handed over the funding notification to DLR on 25 November 2025 in the presence of the Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, Dr. Reiner Haseloff. With the TPP, DLR is building what is currently the world's largest research facility in Leuna to optimise electricity-based fuels and further develop technologies and processes for their production on an industrial scale. The new funding decision secures the operating phase of the plant until 2035.

Meike Jipp, DLR executive board member for Energy and Transport, says: 'With the TPP, DLR is making an important contribution to shaping the far-reaching transformation of the energy, mobility and industry sectors and to strengthening Germany as a business location in challenging times with forward-looking technologies. Electricity-based fuels make it possible to make aviation, shipping and heavy-duty road traffic more climate-friendly and environmentally friendly. At the same time, they can help make Germany's supply situation more resilient and less dependent on fossil raw materials.'
