The Government of Canada has announced a $2.5 million ($1.8 million USD) investment through the Energy Innovation Program (EIP) to support Ottawa-based TerraFixing in developing direct air capture (DAC) technology designed for cold climates.
The project will scale up CO₂ capture beds using structured zeolite packing, a porous mineral that traps CO₂, with the aim of fitting a 1,000-tonnes-per-year DAC unit into a shipping container. At large scale, the system is targeting costs below $100 ($70 USD) per tonne of CO₂.
This investment supports Canada’s push to become a global clean energy leader, advancing carbon management technologies that enhance energy security, create high-skilled jobs, and drive long-term economic growth while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
