Axens, in partnership with IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) and SMS group, has officially launched Carboverseo™, an innovative reverse water-gas shift technology that converts CO₂ into CO at industrial scale. Now fully homologated, this process is set to become a cornerstone for scalable e-Fuels production.
Developed on an accelerated timeline, Carboverseo™ leverages the combined expertise of the partners: Axens contributed process design and integration capabilities, IFPEN led reactor modelling, catalyst selection, and pilot testing, while SMS group applied its high-temperature process knowledge and built a demonstration unit capable of heating gases above 1000°C.
Carboverseo™ is a key part of Axens’ comprehensive e-Fuel production chain, which begins with DMX™ carbon capture technology to extract CO₂ from flue gases, followed by CO₂ conditioning and the RWGS process to produce syngas. This syngas is then upgraded through Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and refining to create synthetic fuels, including sustainable aviation fuel.
With Carboverseo™ fully validated, Axens has significantly lowered technology risk for investors and licensees, supporting faster adoption of e-Fuels and advancing the energy transition.
