Alby PtX and Big Akwa AB have signed a Strategic Partner Memorandum of Understanding to explore a long-term collaboration focused on industrial symbiosis. The partnership aims to leverage shared resources, by-products, and infrastructure to create mutual value, reduce energy consumption, minimise environmental impact, and enhance operational efficiency.
Alby PtX, co-owned by Prime Capital and Norsk e-Fuel and supported by RES, is developing an industrial-scale e-fuel plant producing sustainable aviation fuel. Big Akwa plans to establish a land-based aquaculture facility near Alby PtX’s operations. The collaboration will explore integrating surplus oxygen and waste heat from the e-fuel production to oxygenate and regulate the temperature of the aquaculture systems, improving energy efficiency and resource utilisation.
Downstream, nutrient-rich effluents and organic residues from the aquaculture operations could be recovered and converted into bio-based products such as microbial biomass for feed or fertilisers. Waste heat from Alby PtX could also be used to dry fish sludge, process single-cell protein biomass, and maintain optimal aquaculture conditions.
The partnership is expected to deliver mutual benefits through energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and the creation of new bio-based value chains. It also supports regional socioeconomic development by establishing the Alby industrial park as a hub for innovative, circular industrial solutions.
