The Ammonia Energy Association (AEA) has announced that its Ammonia Certification System is now fully operational following the launch of its pilot phase in September 2025. The system is open to all participants across the ammonia value chain, including producers, traders, distributors, and end users.
The pilot phase covers three key elements: pre-certification of planned facilities, certification of ammonia with full disclosure of environmental attributes, and a global registry ensuring robust chain of custody as certificates are generated, transferred, and retired.
The initiative aims to enhance transparency and traceability in the low-carbon ammonia market, providing a standardised framework for verifying environmental performance.
Further details, including participation guidelines and system documents, are available via the AEA website. The certification system will also be discussed at the AEA Annual Conference in Houston on 20–22 October.
